PNI1703--Follow-up Advice on Requirement of MEC for Vessels from ZIKA Affected Areas by Chinese Quarantine Authority-The MEC is not required any more
 Circular Ref No.: PNI1703

Date: 03 March 2017

Dear Sirs or Madam,

Subject: Follow-up Advice on Requirement of MEC for Vessels from ZIKA Affected Areas by Chinese Quarantine Authority-The MEC is not required any more

Reference is made to our previous Circulars (Ref No.:1603 & 1604 &1609) on this issue. We note that the “Notice on Prevention and Control of Zika Virus into China” issued by Chinese Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau (“CIQ”) has become void on 02 March 2017.

Through contacting relevant departments of Chinese Quarantine Authority, we were advised that the Notice will not be renewed and the MEC is no longer required if vessels’ last port of call is a Zika affected countries/ areas after 02 March 2017.

We also consulted some local CIQ offices and understand that the MEC is not a necessity for port entry formalities any more.

Anyway, Owners are still suggested to contact local ship agent before calling Chinese ports for the sake of good order, viewing that some local requirements might vary for the time being.

Hope the above is of assistance. Any query, please feel free to contact us at pni.bj@huatai-serv.com.

Best regards,
